Join Scott Pagano for an in-depth discussion in this video Understanding additional geometry functions, part of Learning Houdini.
- We've looked at a bunch…of the geometry operations in Houdini.…And I want to point out a few other…really basic things that we use all the time.…There's clearly a ton more than this that we could get into,…but I just want to show you three really basic…important things that you find yourself…needing to do with models.…So the first one is just dealing with UVs.…And this could be a whole world in itself.…And there's obviously a lot of manual UV techniques…and automatic UV techniques.…And I'm just going to show you…how to make sure we can get UVs onto our models.…So I'm going to turn on this first geometry object here,…and I'm going to dive in.…
And I just have a basic tube in here.…So we can see if I middle-mouse click,…there's no UVs.…There's just 1 Point Attribute…and we have the P attribute.…I'm going to right-click under here.…And I'm going to go to Material.…And I'm going to go to UV Texture.…And now if I middle-mouse click,…you can see that we have a UV Point Attribute as well.…And if I were to go to our UV View…

1/19/2015These tutorials introduce the fundamental 3D concepts (modeling, animation, texturing, lighting, and rendering) as they apply in Houdini. Instructor Scott Pagano shows how to manipulate geometry; apply materials; add lights and cameras to a scene; render work with Houdini's internal renderer, Mantra; and even create simple particle systems. The course will start new users on a path to more advanced 3D work and show experienced users of other 3D packages how to transfer their skills to the world of Houdini.
- Setting Houdini preferences
- Modifying geometry
- Copy stamping
- Setting keyframes
- Manipulating animation channels
- Shading and texture mapping
- Lighting scenes
- Rendering with Mantra
