Render passes in Mantra
- So usually when we render 3D animation, we render out not just the final beauty pass of the image, but we render out a bunch of other image planes to be used for tweaking and compositing. That's pretty standard practice. And setting that up in Houdini and in Mantra is unique. And so I'm going to show you how to go about doing that in a really basic, clear way. So first we're going to select our Mantra node here that we've created. I'm going to hit the P key to open up our parameters. And we're going to to go the Images tab. And the tab we're into down here is the second one here called Extra Image Planes. Often these are referred to as render passes. You may have used the term AOVs. We're going to use the word Image Planes here. And so by default we can enable the rendering of certain passes by clicking on certain check boxes here. Now, some of these, like these first three Shading Position, Depth, and Normal, those aren't shader specific because obviously those are more like data…
