What is assistive technology?

- [Voiceover] Assistive technologies is a very broad term for any technology that helps assist people with disabilities. In this video we'll take a look at a few examples for some of the different types of disabilities. Now, assistive technology can include things like wheelchairs and walkers that help people move about. For assistive technology related to vision there are screen readers, screen magnifiers and braille embossers. For hearing, you have hearing aids, and assistive listening devices. For cognitive disability there is a wide range of software that can help to assist students. As well as other things such as memory aids, such as voice recorders. For motor function disabilities, there are assistive technologies that make it possible to navigate a computer using tools like a sip-and-puff device or voice recognition software such as Dragon Naturally Speaking that allows you to navigate the computer using your voice.
