Welcome

- Hello, my name is Elsa Loftis, and welcome to this course on information literacy. I hope that through this course you become better, quicker, and more thorough researchers. And better students too. Through this course I hope to help you better understand the massive world of information. Information contained both within libraries, as well as the even more massive world of information found online. I'll start by going through the different types of resources that are available to you and some things to keep in mind while navigating through them. Then I'll challenge the way you think about search queries to help you better find the information you're looking for. We'll differentiate between popular and scholarly sources and I'll take you through how to ethically use and cite the information you've discovered. Librarians are masters of information science. Who better to offer you concepts and techniques designed to help you improve your abilities to locate, evaluate, and use the information you find. Let's get started.
