Order of operations
- [Voiceover] In this video I'll talk about Order of Operations, which in arithmetic is the order with which you do things like multiplication, addition, division, etcetera. So, you might remember PEMDAS from long ago. PEMDAS is an acronym that stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, and Subtraction and that's the order that you need to do these operations in. Parentheses always come first, followed by Exponents, Multiplication and Division are tied, and Addition and Subtraction are tied. The other thing you have to remember is working from left to right. So let me just show you an example of when you might have to think about PEMDAS. Let's just say I had something like three times two plus three raised to the second power minus four So just remember if you ever are in doubt, start with parentheses. So we're gonna simplify this to three times five squared minus four. Before we multiply anything by three, we've gotta do exponents first. So that's gonna…
