Becoming a lynda.com member is like gaining access to the course list of a hundred universities all at once. - Which is totally amazing, but potentially overwhelming. Sorting through an ocean of content can be a challenge. This course will provide you with a systematic framework for using lynda.com instructional videos to achieve your personalized learning goals. Whether that's gaining skills for a new career, picking up a new hobby, or mastering a particular software program. - [Aaron] We'll start out by unpacking some theories of learning. Then we'll explore the lynda.com website and dive into features like finding and organizing content, taking notes, utilizing learning guides, and exploring how to actively participate in your learning.
I'll give you insights into the instructional theory behind each learning tool and I'll also describe ways that lynda.com can help you apply your learning right away so that the learning sticks. - [Matt] Along the way I'll be presenting you with some knowledge checks. These are quick opportunities for you to think about what you've learned and write down your reflections using the integrated note taking system. These notes will ultimately be your visible learning take aways for the course. - By the way, for those of you who may be teaching using lynda.com, either as a textbook replacement or a supplement for class learning, this course will be a framework for how you can equip your students to be self-motivated learners, able to set their own learning goals and independently explore the instructional videos needed to reach those goals.
