Representation is the first UDL principles. Representation outlines how teachers present their content to studetnts so that all studetnts have access to learning. Three main components of representation that focus on teaching complex topics is: developing vocabulary and key conceots, background knowledge, metacognition skills, self reflection, and ways to address visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners.
