- [Voiceover] In this video, I'll explain the basics of how the GRE is scored. So when you finish taking the real GRE, your verbal and math scores will appear on the screen at the end of the test. Both of these scores will be between 130 and 170, with 170 being the highest possible score. Then about two weeks later, you'll get an official score report in the mail which will also include your essay score; that'll be a number between one and six. So the score report you get in the mail will also include the percentile for each score. For example, on math a score of 153 is about the fiftieth percentile, which means that if you did score 153 in math, you scored higher than about 50% of other test takers. So ETS, the company that writes the GRE, doesn't tell us exactly how scores are calculated, but here are a few basics.
