- So, how do you know if you're gaining the knowledge you need during a course? Well, as the saying goes, practice makes perfect. Many lynda.com courses include hands-on practice environments called Challenges. Basically, the author challenges you to go beyond watching and instead try out a skill or process on your own, based on what you've just learned. There's no better way to know if you really understand something than to try doing it independently. If you get stuck on a challenge and don't know how to finish, you can always watch the Solution video to see the author's approach to the problem.
Challenges are a great way to self monitor your comprehension during a course and to identify what you may need to revisit. The net result is better learning. Let's go ahead and take a look at a Challenge. When you're going through a course, you may come across two videos at the end of the chapter that are titled Challenge and Solution. The Challenge and Solutions are a way to engage you in the learning. This is an opportunity for you to practice or apply the knowledge that you've just learned in this chapter and then see exactly how the author of the course would've applied that knowledge.
This particular course is from the LogoLounge Shapes and Symbols in Logo Design. And this particular challenge is creating loops with lines. It's at the end of Chapter 3 inside of this course. And when you come to a Challenge and Solution video, the first thing that's gonna happen is the author's gonna present the challenge to you. Partway through presenting the challenge, they're also gonna give you a List of Objectives or what you should do inside of this challenge. And finally, the author's gonna tell you approximately how long it should take you to complete the challenge. Once you've completed the challenge, you can then watch the Solution video.
Now, during the Solution video, the author will walk you through exactly how they completed the challenge so that you can see how they were thinking about the strategy versus your strategy, and whether or not you've really mastered the concepts that were presented in this particular chapter. I highly recommend that you take the time to complete the challenges. This is gonna allow you to take your learning and make it something that sticks and that you can apply into your own life in your own designs. And it's gonna help you toward achieving your learning goals at a much faster rate.
