- [Jen] The web is full of countless pages with little organization between websites. Search engines, like Google, help us navigate this virtual mess of information, but wouldn't it be great if search engines didn't have to work so hard? Wouldn't it be great if a search engine could easily identify and classify types of information? Maybe there could be some kind of interesting display of that information within the search engine itself. Fortunately, you don't have to dream about this. It already exists. In this course, we'll focus on schema.org, a website that offers a standardized way of describing all types of information. Once we've identified the type of information we want to describe, we'll look at two different methodologies for incorporating that structure into your website, including JSON-LD and Microdata. Using detailed examples, you'll learn exactly how to incorporate structured data into your own website. We'll also look at Google's Structured Data Markup Helper, which will help you structure your data in a point and click interface. Finally, we'll use the Structured Data Testing Tool which allows us to identify any errors in our data markup and we'll also get a preview of how our listing will look with Google's enhanced listing results. Attractive and interesting listings in search results and applications, like Google Maps, are within your reach once you learn how to properly work with structured data.
