Join Chris Converse for an in-depth discussion in this video About the exercise files, part of Creating an iPad App with HTML5 and PhoneGap Build.
For this project, the exercise files will be available to all subscribers on the lynda.com online training library. And the exercise file consists of a single configuration.xml file. When we start building our PhoneGap application, there are some settings that we can set through the website. But if we use a configuration file we could access more properties. Now as far as material to use to create a native application, I'm going to start from a previous project on the windows.com online training library called Creating an iPad Web App. So if you've completed the project from that course you can use that to follow along in this course.
However since PhoneGap Build can convert any HTML project into a native application, you can certainly use any web-based project as your starting point to create a native application. Now that we're familiar with the exercise files, let's start building our app.

Q: Do I need a Macintosh to create a signing certificate?
A: No. There are ways to create a certificate in Windows. There's an article explaining the process at http://www.tomasmcguinness.com/2012/06/28/generating-an-apple-ios-certificate-using-windows/.
