The design community
- Being a part of your local and national design community can really help you in this process in tons of ways, some more obvious and some more subtle. First of all, you'll meet other designers and learn about all the different places they work and what their jobs are like. You'll be learning more about the things you love and get turned on to other things you don't even know about yet. There's the AIGA, of course, but there's also the Art Director's Club, the Type Director's Club, and many, many more meetups in every town. I recommend volunteering as the best way to get to know your design community. They'll always welcome your help, and you'll meet other local designers and have fun doing it. So by volunteering in any way, you'll meet people, they'll know who you are, and you'll be on your way to showing people how talented and awesome you are, how well you work with others.
