What is quality assurance?

- [Instructor] Ebooks have often been called out by consumers and in the press because of quality issues. These issues can cause consumers to become generally unhappy with the publisher who created the ebooks and can also have a negative impact on sales. Ebook quality issues are most often due to problems in the ebook file but sometimes they're due to issues in the ebook devices or apps themselves. The only solution to quality issues regardless of the source of the problem is to test the ebook files before they are released and to know how to determine what is an ebook issue and what is the limitation of the technology. Now, quality assurance and quality control are technically different processes. Quality control is performed after the product is created and involves testing a product against current standards to ensure that it's ready to be released. Meanwhile quality assurance is performed during product creation and involves developing processes to ensure the quality of the product as it is being produced. I've chosen to call this course Ebook Quality Assurance because I would like the information you learn here to help you as you create your ebook files not just as you test them after they are created. So, while we will focus a lot on quality control during the upcoming videos, the lessons you learn about quality control should also help you create better quality assurance practices to use in your ebook creation. Thus making quality testing that much easier to do.
