Welcome

- My name is Todd Gallopo and I'm the creative director of Meat and Potatoes, a boutique branding agency in Los Angeles. As a young designer, I started making mockups of the album packaging I was designing for my rock star clients, so they can get an idea of how it would print. I've been working like this with my hands for over 25 years. Since then, I've attempted to create mockups of everything I've designed. From CD packaging to bottles, boxes, books, beauty products, food products, you name it and I've probably printed, cut, and glued it together with only a few finger injuries along the way. They haven't all been perfect and it takes more than a few to get it right, but we must always try, try again. The approach to making physical mockups has changed over the years and with the power of the computer, digital 3D mockups can look quite beautiful, but there's no substitute for showing a client something they can hold in their hands, something that represents your work in a physical form. It's that extra wow factor that makes your work shine and your client will never forget it. In my course of 3D mockups I'm going to walk you through some simple steps that will give you some insight on how to get your design from the computer to the physical form. My approach is just one of a hundred ways you can make these little beauties, but I hope that what I share with you in this course will allow you to create your own techniques to mastering this craft. So get ready to put your computer to sleep for a while and wake up your hands. Let's get crafty and let's make some mockups.
