- [Instructor] Let's conclude our look at various font formats with an overview of web fonts. For many years, if you were designing a web site, you were limited to using a specific set of web safe fonts that you could be sure both mac and Windows users had on their computers. Otherwise, you couldn't be sure that people would see your website as you intended it to look. This limited set of fonts included familiar names like Arial, Courier, Times New Roman, Georgia, Verdana, and yes, even Comic Sans. Today, thankfully, you have many more design alternatives because modern browsers have expanded support for web fonts. So, instead of a handful of fonts, you have thousands to choose from when designing a web page. The term web fonts can refer to any technology that allows a web designer to specify a font to be automatically downloaded and applied to text on a webpage as rendered in the browser.
