Understanding SVG fonts
- [Instructor] Another type of font that you should become familiar with is SVG fonts. SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphic, and this is a technology for using XML code to define vector graphics, like the kind that you can make with applications like Adobe Illustrator. The benefit of using SVG is that the XML is an open format that can be read by lots of applications, including web browsers. So, SVG graphics give web developers a method of making graphics that can be scaled to any size without losing quality, and at the same time, remaining relatively small in file size, since they're composed of XML instead of pixels, like a .JPG or a .PNG image would be. And many web designers did use SVG fonts to represent graphics on web pages, especially for things like icons. And there are several websites where you can upload SVG graphics to build a custom font. For example, here's a site called Glyphter, and you can build an icon font, glyph by glyph, from popular SVG graphics libraries by…
