- In this movie, will continue our look at Font formats with an overview of PostScript Fonts. PostScript Fonts are the oldest kind of font technology that will cover in this course, so lets start with a little history. They were created back in 1984, by Adobe and along with the rest of Adobe PostScript technology and the original Apple Macintosh computers and laser writers printers, PostScript Fonts helped to launch the desktop publishing revolution. Known for their high quality, PostScript Fonts became the dominant fonts used in commercial printing in the 80s and 90s. There are several different types of PostScript Font but most are very obscure and not in use today, so you'll never come across them. When people talk about PostScript Fonts, there almost always talking about Type 1 PostScript Fonts. You can identify a PostScript Font in some applications by a lowercase red a symbol.
