Tracking tips

- Welcome to Type Tips, my name is Nigel French, and in this episode I have a tip about working with tracking. In this document, as indicated by the red plus, I have some overset text, and it's just a single line of overset text. One way I can address this problem is by applying some negative tracking to the text that precedes it so that we bring that line back up. I'm going to select this paragraph, and then use the keyboard shortcut to apply tracking, and this is Option or Alt and the left arrow. Now when I do that, this value changes, and it changes by an increment of one every time. In this particular example, I'm going to need to go to a value of minus 5 in order to bring that line back so that the red plus symbol is now gone. That brings up an important point, and I want to show you a preference. It's units and increments and I have changed the default value from 20, which is far too coarse when using tracking for this purpose, to the smallest amount possible, which is one…
