- Hi everyone, John McWade. Last time we looked at how to soften the edge of a rectangular image by adding a three-dimensional object next to it. This time we're gonna us that same technique, but get words involved and take it into the realm of storytelling layout. This is a skill you want, and I hope to show you why. Pictures tell stories, by that I mean this. The mountain stream here, it looks cool and fresh, it's a place away, I don't know about you, but living near the mountains, I'd like to put my hand in that water, touch the grass and the moss and walk on the rocks. So it evokes those associations. I'm reading it. Pictures also get a lot of attention. On any page or screen, the pictures are what we go to first, so editorially, the most important copy on the page after the headline are the picture captions. They're where the reader's eyes are. Typically we'll caption a picture like this, and this is fine, but before we do that, let's add a second picture to the page. You may…
