- Rethinking how a millennial creative nomad works yields some interesting insights for the companies that hire them. The concept of employee retention is becoming irrelevant. With an average of only 18 to 24 months with an employee, companies must reconsider job benefits. A better way to think about this is to ask the question, how can companies get the most out of and give the most to an employee in such a compressed period of time? One easy perk I've seen is an achievement structure that provides a new job title with a tiny salary bump every six to nine months. These small bumps counter stagnation and keep a nomad's attention for a while. What used to be traditional titles that were achieved in five to six years, such as designer or art director, are now accelerated titles and can be achieved in smaller timeframes over only three years.
