- You've heard me say this before, the best design is the simplest design. I have an example for you. I walked into a store the other day and came across this poster. And as I (laughing), quick, can you find the pots for sale here? This is a design that is, probably has the worst of design. The background is busy. We have eight photographs, each of which are busy in themselves. They've been placed atop the background bordered in gold, then autumn leaves have been placed on top of those, type has been place on top of the autumn leaves, the type itself has a border and a shadow. And the design does everything possible to obscure the product. Can you see the boutique items here? Can you see the fountains here? Can you see the trees here? And it's like, no. So you walk into the store , you see this sign and you walk right past it. The problem, of course, being that someone has spent time and effort and money to prepare this and it's ignored.
