Nostalgic resurgence
- So here's a strange concept for us to wrap our head around. Creatives in diverse fields are developing projects that are influenced by nostalgia as it relates to our past and to the future. To the future? Yep. In architecture, product design, and graphics, there's a level of fascination with the '70s perception of what the future would look like. Note that 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars, released respectively in '68 and '77, still drive our perception of the future. Conceptually like a steampunk reboot, but from the perspective of Ray Bradbury instead of Jules Verne. Period Atari and game graphics, set design, and promotional aesthetics have been influential drivers to a generation that missed them the first time around. Possibly the more expected nostalgia wave has us turning the WABAC Machine into the '70s and '50s and occasionally back to the '30s.
