- As creatives who have actual print pieces, websites, apps, videos, copy, and other tangible results to show for our labors, we often incorrectly assume that our managers, and our managers' managers, and our managers' managers' managers understand and value what we bring to the corporate party and that we don't really need to mess with those folks. Wrong-o. The people who live above us in the organizational hierarchy often don't have a clue as to what we do, how we do it, and if it has any real value. Their ignorance of our place in the organization makes it imperative that we appropriately manage up the company food chain, because upper management determines where we work, how we work, and actually, if we work at all. They can and will either be our advocates for the resources we need or be detractors and an impediment to our goals for us and our teams.
