Assess the structure you are working with, and learn how and where to measure it to create the proper templates.
- As a designer, most of the time you'll be working…with a template provided by a printer.…And in this course, we'll work on two mock-ups…that have complex templates that were calculated…by a structural designer who works…at the printing company we used to print the products.…But we'll also work on mock-ups that are much simpler,…like this spice jar.…Or, the sauce packet.…These items have simple shapes,…and are easy to measure to make your own templates.…So for example, I'm going to measure…this spice jar with a flexible ruler.…
This is why I think this tool is so cool.…Because if you hold up the zero mark…on one end, you can wrap it around…the jar to find your dimension.…So if I follow that completely,…I've got about six and an eighth.…Then I'll measure up the side.…It's about another three and an eighth.…Works really well with the flexibility of this ruler.…So if you're just trying to recreate…a template for an item that exists,…you don't have to try and peel…the label off the jar to measure it.…
That's just going to make a mess.…
