- Hi everyone. John McWade, Senior Author here at Lynda.com. I've heard some misconception about what a logo is suppose to do. The job of a logo is to identify your business or enterprise. It's not to explain it. Meaning tell everyone what it is and what it does. It's also not to sell. You know, meaning get more customers because maybe you have a cool logo. Those jobs are for marketing. The job of a logo is to identify and any simple image that does this will usually work. It helps if it's attractive. It also helps if there's a connection between the logo and the company, although you don't even need that. Kathy's job was to design a logo for Twin Circle Properties. Twin, was for the owner's twin girls, and Circle was never explained. Many of the best company names are like this. They're personal, meaning not derived from marketing.
