- One of the most important aspects of packaging is the information it communicates to the intended audience. Knowing what ideas need to be conveyed to the consumer, how the product can compete with others on the shelf, and what visually persuades someone to make a purchase is an essential first step in packaging design. The info on the packaging needs to let the consumer know who it's from, what it is, how it works, and why should you buy it. Without considering this info, you'll risk ending up with a clutter and confusing design. Let's break this idea down a little more. What's the brand? Identify the separate elements of the brand. Such as, the word mark, symbol and tagline. This will help you decide who to place them on the packaging and the prominence of each, like whether to promote the corporation brand versus the product brand.
