- This boils down to resources. It takes three times as much money and time to find a new client than it does to work with an existing one. By the time you factor in promotion, contact and convincing a new client, you've expanded many more hours and resources than calling your current client. Some designers work with the same client for decades. I worked with most of my clients for many years. The secret to this is maintaining the relationship. Each project is critical. We are often judged by the last one we did. Doing one project only is a transaction, it's not a relationship yet. It's the same as buying groceries. I go to the store, buy my food and leave. I may go to a different store next week, because they have better prices. I don't have a relationship with the store manager or cashier.
