- [Narrator] When you hear the word "spam," it's likely you think of junk mail, and, of course, you probably think of this canned meat delicacy, right? Often though, people don't realize that quite a lot of visual content gets the label of spam as well. In 2009, infographics began to take off, and the driving force behind them was content marketers looking for cheap and quick content solutions to build out their websites and gain links from other sites to their infographic. This helped them move up in search engines, thus improving their website traffic and revenue numbers. There were multiple problems to this approach though. To begin, many of these marketers put quantity above quality. They didn't really care about the quality of research or design and, often, didn't care if the topic of the infographic even related to their product or service.
