- Hi everyone, John McWade. Today I'd like to show you a technique that I learned early in my career and that's where we use a grid to create a collage of images. What's unusual and what I like about it is the grid is a visible part of the design. This is a great looking way to deal with a lot of images, the grid is an organizing tool, it's easy to do, and it's fun. It's like putting together a puzzle. Let me show you how it works, although you can probably tell. You can do this in any program. I'm working in InDesign. In InDesign, probably the easiest way to make a grid is with the Document Grid function. Another way is to make a grid out of ruler guides. If you do that, put them on their own layer and lock it. In either case you wanna start with something that looks like this. Now on top of these guides you wanna draw your grid, meaning the lines you'll see in the finished design.
