- Feeling appreciated is one of the six drivers of happiness for workers. But also, knowing that you are fairly compensated for you hard work, makes you feel more valued as an employee. According to research from our parent company, Robert Half, nine out of ten workers believe that they deserve a raise, but less than half said they planned to ask for a salary increase. Discussing compensation can really be a challenge for many people, as demonstrated by the fact that the majority of people feel they deserve one and a good percentage say that they don't plan to ask for one. So I'd like to share a little story. We publish a salary guide each year. I can't tell you the number of times, over the years, that an individual has come to me and said I used your salary guide to sit down with my manager and successfully negotiated an increase.
