General communication tips and tricks
- Sharpen your pencils and boot up your laptops. Here are some more communication tips and best practices. Practice makes presentations perfect. You should more often than not rehearse that big pitch or difficult conversation and not by yourself, but with an audience of one or many. Role playing may even be in order, but don't script it. You'll come off as insincere and robotic. Tell tall tales. No, I'm not suggesting you lie or exaggerate the facts. What I am saying is that stories in real-world examples will have a bigger impact on your audience and they'll retain the message better. Here is an example. If you're trying to promote your team to a new potential client you just bumped into in the elevator, you could either tell him or her how your team is made up of seasoned industry pros and that you have state-of-the-art equipment and are adhering to industry best practices.
