Designing for screen printing and vinyl

- [Instructor] Designing for vinyl has some strengths and some limitations. The strengths are that you can affordably print fewer shirts per order and the durability of the vinyl itself. There is flexibility for personalization and the designs can have nice, clean lines. But designing for vinyl also has some limitations. For example, when working with vinyl you're forced to reduce the number of colors in your design because you're pressing multiple layers of vinyl onto a shirt. With each additional layer of vinyl you'll add to the cost, weight and stiffness of the garment. Generally, you'll want to stick to a single color but you could use two colors or more for specialty situations. Another limitation when designing with vinyl is that all the elements in your design need to be at least one eighth of an inch wide. The nature of the vinyl material limits how close together the cuts can be made by the blade that cuts out the vinyl designs. Screen printing, however, doesn't have these…
