- Without money for rent, or tethered by a mortgage creative nomads transform a laptop, a smart phone, and a coffee house into their office. Companies that millennials want to work for offer these kinds of adual relationships to space and place. German artist and designer Winfried Baumann conceptualized and prototyped a scale model, of future nomadic live/workspaces in his 2013 book Urban Nomads. He envisioned stacked, movable microbuildings for on-the-go living based on experiences around themes of instant housing, instant cooking, instant exhibition, and instant help. Baumann speaks at the inhabitants toggling tech and craft and creating businesses while they're at it. The interior space design of the San Francisco headquarters of Air BNB reflects the ideas behind Baumann's images. When employees arrive to work they place their valuables in cubbies.
