Deliver bad news early

- No one wants to start a day with the roughest task first, especially if it involves relaying challenging news about a project. But, part of scheduling is communicating and communicating often. That includes the good and the bad. Dealing with challenging news early gives you the rest of your day to be able to solve any problems, and that is how you need to frame it for both yourself and the client. Bad news can come in many forms, but here are some of the most common. We are going to miss a deadline. We made a mistake or a mistake has happened. We can't get whatever you asked for to work the way you want it to. We are going to be over budget. We can't keep working until you pay your bill. With all these examples, the key is to have a solution or recommended next steps ready to deliver right on the tail of that news. If it's your or your team's fault, own that too.
