- Okay, now your resume is ready, your portfolio has been edited, and you've figured out how to talk about your work. And you've also identified some places you want to work. So you're ready to put yourself out there. Let's start with applying for jobs with places that aren't necessarily looking for someone. So first I have a confession. When we aren't looking for someone, we don't always respond to unsolicited emails, and I'm sorry about that. Don't take it personally. It's not in any way a reflection of you. When we are looking, we do go back and visit those emails and reach out, so you never know. Okay, so you can call places, but most likely their website will instruct you how to send them your work, which they'd tell you if you called them. So follow those instructions. There's a reason they're asking you to apply in a certain way. Respect that.
