- [Instructor] Worksheets are terrific calculation tools. In addition to calculating formula results based on static values, you can select a value for one cell based on a value in another. In this movie, I'll show you how to do that using the choose function. This is a very simple worksheet, and I just want to demonstrate how to use the choose function. The idea is that I want to provide customer discounts based on their level, and level might be assigned by the amount of their orders from the previous year. Rather than list out the different discount levels and use a VLOOKUP or similar formula to find them, I can do everything within a single cell using the choose function. So in cell B4, which I'll click now to activate, I'll type in equal sign and then the function choose. What choose does is select a value from a list of values based on the index number.
