Multiply a set of numbers
- When you want to a series of numbers together you can use the sum function. When you want to multiply a series of numbers together, such as when you calculate a compound probability, you can use the product function. I'll demonstrate how to use the product function in this movie. For example, let's say that you are projecting into the future and you believe that 45% of the time in year one you will have a negative result, in other words, sales will be lower than normal, and 55% of the time, sales will be higher. For year two, you would have 33% lower and 67% higher. And for year three, 19% of the time sales would be lower and 81% of the time they will be higher. If you want to find the compound probability, you would multiply all of these numbers together. So, I will click in cell D2 to find the probability of the first scenario of a down year in year one, two, and three. So at 45% of the time, 33, and 19%. In cell D2 I'll type an equal sign and then the function product, followed…
