Filter a pivot table by selection
- [Instructor] Pivot tables can summarize huge data collections, but many times you'll want to limit the data displayed within a given category. For example, you might want to limit the data displayed to only certain months within a year. In this movie, I will show you how to make that sort of change to your pivot table by creating a selection filter. My sample file is 02_03_Selection, and you can find it in the chapter two folder of your exercise files collection. This workbook contains two worksheets, and I'm looking at the Pivot Table 2 worksheet, which has actual labor data for months and are broken down by years. Let's say that I only want to see actual labor for the months of January and July. If I want to do that, I can use filter arrows. To display those, I'll go to the toolbar, and if you don't see the entire toolbar because of the pivot table editor, you can close it. And then at the far right, you'll see the filter button.
