Create a named range for use in a formula

- [Instructor] So far, all the formulas I've shown you use cell references such as A3, or range references such as A2:A5, to designate which cells should be summarized in the formula. Those references work just fine, but it can make it hard to understand exactly what data your formula summarizes. You can make your formulas easier to comprehend by assigning names to groups of cells, and then using those name ranges in your formula. In this movie I will show you how to define an A range. This workbook contains a single worksheet and in it I have three columns of data: year, the city in which a property is located, and revenue. I use my revenue in a lot of calculations, so to make it explicit when I'm referring to that column, I will create a "Named range". To create the "Named range" I will select cells C2 through C13, those are the cells that contain my data, and then on the data menu, I click "Named ranges" and the "Named ranges" hint comes up, and I can add a range.
