Most of the calculations you perform in Google Sheets involve sums and averages. However, there will be times when you need to count the number of cells that contain specific types of values such as numbers, blanks, or unique values.

So I'll click in cell B11, type an equal sign…and then type "count"…followed by a left parenthesis…and this returns a count of the number…of numeric values in a data set.…I'll select cells B2 through B10,…type a right parenthesis and enter,…and I see that I have six numbers within that range.…And if I look at cells B2, I have one.…B3 is another.…B4 is a number, don't have any numbers from 5 through 7…and then three more numbers for a total of six.…
The next function I'll use, COUNTA,…counts the number of values in a range.…It counts numbers, it also counts words,…
