- [Instructor] When you work with a range of data, you might need to know how many rows and columns it contains to ensure your formulas work correctly. You can discover how many rows and columns a range has by using the rows and columns functions. I have a fairly straightforward data set over on the left side. You'll see that I have matching pairs of house price and the square footage of the house. Rather than analyze the data directly, though, I just want to find the number of columns and the number of rows in that data set. To find the number of columns, I can use the columns function. So I'll click in cell D2 to activate it, type an equal sign, and the function is columns, left parentheses, and then I will select A2 through B14, type a right parentheses and enter, and to no one's surprise, we got two columns.
