- One of my favorite things to use the GoPro camera for is to produce Time Lapse. Time Lapse is a style of photography where you shoot at constant frame rate, let's say a shot every five seconds. You take a picture, and then you combine those together into a movie. This is a great way to show the passage of time. Maybe it's something like a dramatic sunset, or the clouds rolling in on a stormy day. Or perhaps you want to show something from dusk to sunset, and then see the lights of the city come on at night.
I also use Time Lapse in the camera to show things like behind-the-scenes shots on some of our video projects. People don't want to sit there and watch a four-hour shot of you getting ready to pull off a big production, but seeing everything pop up quickly in a 30-second video gives people a great overview on how you built a particular video or photo set, or it could be a great marketing tool for your business. Any case, the GoPro features are pretty easy to use when it comes to creating a Time Lapse, and let me walk you through these. To start, you need to switch the camera into Time Lapse mode.
And you can do this by accessing the multi-shot mode on the camera. You could do this by using the remote app, the on-screen menus, or the front menu screen. We'll explore these settings more in just a moment. The GoPro camera is not that expensive compared to traditional photography gear. And in fact, you can even shoot Time Lapse on some of the lower-end GoPro models. This makes it really useful, particularly if you do something like attach an external battery to the camera. Now it could run for days.
So if you got something cool to show like the passage of time or something growing over time, or maybe the building of a construction project, well, this works pretty well. When it's all done, you plug the camera into your computer, and transfer. And then you could start to assemble your Time Lapse movie. Now, if you're not super experienced with Time Lapse photography, I actually have several full-length courses available here in the online library that I encourage you to check out. You can also learn more about Time Lapse movies and how to assemble them by checking out the two GoPro courses, preparing GoPro footage for editing, which will cover GoPro Studio, and editing GoPro Hero photos and videos with Lightroom and Photoshop.
The GoPro is a very affordable way to get you into Time Lapse photography.
