Spot metering helps you get the best exposure for your scene and is handy when you are in a mixed lighting situation. How does it find the exposure and how do you turn it on in your GoPro HERO5 Black or HERO5 Session? Author Richard Harrington shows you where in the GoPro HERO5 camera menus and will demonstrate how it obtains exposure.
- Now, if you've been watching the course so far,…you've likely seen us discuss spot meters.…This is a very useful option in the camera…where you're shooting under mixed lighting conditions…or you'd like to really choose…what part is driving the exposure.…The spot meter measures the exposure…off of a very specific area that you choose.…Rather than simply measuring the entire frame,…you can actually move the bounding box around…and set it to a much smaller target.…
Now, in past versions of GoPro, spot metering…would just use the exact center of the camera,…but now we have a lot more flexibility.…When you tap and press the screen,…you'll note that it's going to…go ahead and actually evaluate things…and start to give you a bounding box.…That bounding box can be dragged around…and set on the target that you…want to use to judge exposure.…What happens now is it's going to force the camera…to use that area to calculate the correct exposure.…This type of metering typically works very well…when you're shooting from a dark area into a bright area.…
