- [Instructor] In a program like InDesign or Microsoft Word, clicking the italic button should cause the program to substitute the actual italic design. So if I, for instance, select this whole paragraph and click italic, or just one word, or two words, the program's automatically substituting the actual italic. This behavior works because the styles are linked in the original font family. If the italic wasn't linked, the program would either mechanically slant the font, or simply ignore my request. The italic typeface must know that it's the italic version of the Roman. In the case of our example font, example font italic must know that it is the italic for example font Roman. So, how do you link styles? In Glyphs App it's connected with two aspects: The base name, and the setup of the instances. The font name is straight forward. All members of the same name family must share the exact same base name. We set the base name, and font info in the very first line of the Font tab. So…
