- [Instructor] Designing an italic is one thing. Placing the points correctly while digitizing is quite another. The same rules that apply to digitizing a Roman apply here. We have corner points at the corners. We have tangent points to connect straight line segments to curves. We have curve points at the extremes of curved segments, the furthest left, furthest right, highest and lowest points. And we have inflections, S-like changes in path direction on a curve. Of all of these points, the most difficult and crucial are the extreme points, and specifically the extremes at the left and the right. They're difficult because the ever shrinking real estate in letter details means that each unit that a handle or point moves can have a big impact on the shape of a letter. But getting them right is crucial because they have an impact on how the letters will look onscreen in the final font.
