Diagonal capitals

- [Instructor] The next group of capitals share the common trait of diagonal strokes. The V, A, W, M, X, Y, and Z all look simple enough but require a bit of trial and error to balance well with the vertical nature of a condensed sans design. Begin with the cap V. Place a copy of the cap H in the background to help guide the width. So we'll type H, copy and paste. And then to switch between the foreground and background layers, we'll use the key combination of Control, Command, and J. So now it's in the background. We can use it as a reference for the width of the letter. When you're making diagonals, there are two competing priorities at work. First, diagonal strokes need to be slightly more slender than vertical strokes. Secondly, the diagonals must taper slightly to prevent clogging and darkness where the strokes overlap. So let's copy a stem from the H and paste it twice into the V. Let's take the first and slant it backwards by seven degrees and the second forward by seven…
