- [Instructor] The defining characteristics of a condensed gothic sans are in the name. It's very condensed, it has no serifs, and it follows a historical style known as gothic or grotesque. But just below those broad strokes, are other little details that add up to the gothic style. I'll draw your attention to two. The shapes of the curves that make up the rounded forms like the cap O, what we've referred to as the simple curve component, and the connecting curves, what we've referred to as the pinch curve component. I've dictated the proportions of those components. But take a moment to look at what happens to the shapes of the letters when you alter the prescription. Since we've composed our letters and numbers from components altering the shape of those components can produce significant changes. So if we change the shapes from something like this to this, you can immediately see the affect. Changing just the curve letters in a font dramatically changes how they look and feel…
