Learn how to write songs on the road and be a productive songwriter even when you're away from the studio.
- Hi. I'm lynda.com author, Garrick Chow. This morning, my band mates and I are loading up our van from here in our home base in central Pennsylvania, and from there, we're gonna be hitting the road to New York City where we have a couple of shows lined up. So we have several hours of driving ahead of us, and we found over the years of doing this, that we come up with some pretty great song ideas when we're all stuck in a van together four hours at a time. Now in the past, we might have jotted down some lyrics in a notebook or maybe sung some melodies into a portable recorder just to get the basic ideas down, but since the advent of the iPad, it's become possible to really develop and experiment with your musical ideas much like you might do at home or in an actual recording studio.
So instead of having to worry about remembering your song ideas when you get back, with a couple of accessories and some inexpensive apps, you can really explore your creative inspirations whenever they hit, wherever you happen to be. So over the next several movies, I'd like to show you some of the tips and techniques that my band mates and I use in the van or in hotel rooms to develop our songs when we're on the move. So welcome to The Gigging Musician: Songwriting on the Road. ? Anywhere today ?
