Let's look at taking music lessons with GarageBand. Now, it might seem a little strange doing a lesson on taking lessons, but there are actually a lot of features in the lesson taking interface that is useful to get to know before you actually start working with the lessons. First step is we go into the Learn to Play section. Now currently we have the two default lessons for Piano or Guitar. But once you have completed these lessons, there are several other lessons you can download for free as you continue to get to know the instrument. Let's click over to the Lesson Store to take a look. You will see, currently we are set to Artist Lessons which allows us to pay for and download additional lessons from professional artists. These show you how to play their own songs in their specific style.
Instead if you want to stick with the basic free lessons click Basic Lessons. You will see now that we have nine additional Guitar and Piano lessons to download. Let's go ahead and download the additional Guitar Lesson, Lesson 2. You will see a progress bar indicates the download, now be careful not to quit GarageBand while it's downloading or you will have to do the whole download again. Let's look instead at the process for purchasing one of the artist lesson. I'll scroll down to access the Roxanne Sting lesson. I can click Preview and see exactly what I'm going to purchase.
(Sting: Hi, I'm Sting and I'm here to teach you my song Roxanne.) (Sting: Roxanne, you don't have to put on a red light.) (Sting: We're still on the top three strings of the guitar and the refrain goes like this.) (Sting: The first chord is a C minor 7th, like so.) I can click Add to Cart right there or click back to Lessons. With any of these lessons, I just click Add to Cart and then check out. Now what this will do is launch Safari and take me to Apple's website where I can type in my Apple ID and Password to complete the purchase. When the whole process is done, the lesson will download into GarageBand.
