- First project I ever worked on professionally,…was a game called "Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord,"…also known as, "Wizardry I." Although, it wasn't…really a "one" at the time. It was,…"Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord."…I guess things become a one when you add a two,…and a three, and a four.…But "Wizardry" was very similar to D&D.…You created a group of six characters,…and you took them down into the dungeon,…and you basically tried to live. (laughs)…You tried to live when things were…trying constantly trying to kill you.…And that was my intro to the industry,…and I didn't know at the time that I was not at the…very beginning, but pretty darn close to it in '81.…
Because there was no internet, and you didn't know what…people on the West Coast were doing.…The only way you really knew what people were doing…was when you would go to a store that might…sell games in baggies, no less, hung up in a store.…That was only real way you knew.…But I had an opportunity to...…I was at Sir-Tech 20 years, so started with "Wizardry,"…
